December 2024: Southannan Estate & ENVA – End of Waste Project, Biglees Quarry, West Kilbride

I was delighted to be asked to be part of the Southannan Estate team to oversee a new End of Waste project at Biglees Quarry. The Estate have partnered with ENVA on an exciting new project to utilise waste flue gas ash in the manufacture of concrete products.

This will involve the revitalisation of the old quarry as the quarried stone will be crushed to form an aggregate mix which along with the ash will be bound in a concrete mix. It is additionally planned to extract quarried materials from the quarry for use in local construction projects.

Toggle will have oversight of the planning considerations; restoration plans and the inter-relationships with SEPA, the environment regulator. I am looking forward to working with Kenny Burns and the Estate team and also with Scott Newport and his team at ENVA. I hope it will be a mutually beneficial collaboration.

Scott Newport and his team at ENVA have spent a lot of time and resource obtaining an End of Waste agreement from SEPA for the waste flue gas ash. Biglees Quarry is an excellent location for the new manufacturing process in which the ash will utilised along with quarried stone and concrete to prepare new concrete products.
